Major New Features
New Form Library / Form Builder App
With Edelog 6.5 we're slowly beginning the transition towards Edelog 7. This means that over the time we're going to phase out classic Edelog interfaces. The start of this transition marks the introduction of two new apps that will replace the previously "Classic Forms" and "Activities" apps:
The new "Forms" app will allow you to quickly access all pending forms and will also allow you to start a new form.
The new "Form Builder" app will allow you to edit forms and create new forms for your users.
While both apps are – for now – simply improved user interfaces of their previous counterparts, we will beginn to add new features to them as we transition to our upcoming new form engine.
In the future you will be able to seamlessly switch between old and new forms from within the same "Forms" and "Form Builder" apps, while we will fade out the old Edelog user interface step by step.
New Features and Non-Breaking Changes
Additional Data Sheets
Edelog 6.5 introduces some new data sheets that can be used to further improve the usability of Data Explorer. We also updated previously included data sheets.
The "References" data sheet can now be configured to display records in the same way as the main database page: You can choose to display associated records in table, tiles, columns, map, calendar, timeline, variation tree or hierarchy view.
The new "Files" data sheet allows you to visually manage, add and remove files attached to a data record.
The new "Geolocation" data sheet allows you to display and update a data record's location. You can enter a postal address to automatically convert it to geolocation coordinates.
The new "Preview" data sheet allows you to display a read-only preview of another record's data columns. This is hady for use-cases where a user has to quickly switch between multiple associated data.
Besides that, the data sheet configuration page has been improved to be more simpler to use.
Improved Object/User/Group Picker
Edelog 6.5 includes a brand new picker for objects, users and groups. While the old object/user/group picker was restricted in some ways, the new one is more flexible and configurable:
You can configure the columns, that shall be visible in the object picker, per database.
Users and groups are rendered with a large profile picture, making it easier to find the correct user or group.
Improved Database Column Configuration
The existing database column configuration page has been re-worked and re-built, making configuration of database columns simpler. The user interface is now more unified with the rest of Edelog.
Other Changes
Database views column und tiles now support the ability to sort data records by a given database column.
Database columns created at, updated at and ID are now visible in Edelog's UI and can be used for filtering and references.
Data Sync services no longer generate activity feed messages.
Added a button to quickly change data sheet settings.
Data column inputs can now be displayed also in a read-only state.
Access permissions can now be configured per data sheet.
A search button has been added to the main database view to quickly find certain data records.
Activity attachments can now be dragged into the browser in order to have a unified user experience across all file upload interfaces.
Color picker has been improved: The generated colors are more saturated. Also, color picker now includes some handy pre-defined colors for quick access.
Improved the visual appearance of the full-screen loading indicator and of dialog boxes.
The search performance has been improved.
Notification Center now also displays the notification's date.
Database permissions can now be differentiated between editing data and creating activities.
Database views can now be renamed.
Archived notifications can be moved back to the inbox.
Bug Fixes
Fixes a problem that causes the wrong database column to be openend after a new database column has been added.
Fixes a problem that causes the "More" button in portals' activity feeds not to load more data.
Fixes a problem that causes Portal Builder to not display a correctly shared database as valid source for a "Shared Database" content element under certain conditions.
Added some previously missing language files.
German translation of linked databases has been improved.
Fixes some layout issues with Portal Builder.
Fixes a bug that causes text editor selections to be unreadable.
Fixes a problem that causes an error message to be displayed if the user switches from one database to another under certain circumstances.
Fixes a problem that causes "Failed Data Sync" notifications to include an incorrect URL.
Fixes some layout issues with notification settings.
Developer Notices
Many UI components have been updated and will be released as standalone packages in a future release.
Many former "core" components have been removed.
The search index needs to be re-built after the update. Please read the corresponding system administrator information before updating.
